Christine McDonough, MBA
student debt management

Federal student loans are unique from every other type of consumer lending program, and it takes a huge investment of time to learn and strategize repayment for the individual borrower. For physicians, the required investment of time is often not possible. My clients hire me because I already have all the background knowledge and expertise to present them with options and help them identify and implement their strategy. I am the sole employee of the business. All clients work exclusively with me. I will work around your availability so you can prioritize your patients. I create a longitudinal relationship with my clients as we work together over time and we revisit the approach and strategy on a regular basis. I give out my cell phone number to all my clients for easy access including texting. I only accept between 2 and 4 clients at a time so I can manage the workload effectively and can be accessible to you around your busy schedule.

Not only am I an expert on the student loan repayment plans and programs, but I also understand the professional career trajectory for physicians. I am familiar with the unique pay structure for physicians at all levels from PGY1, mid-career, and approaching retirement. I also help clients think through secondary considerations such as whether to pick up additional hours moonlighting and/or pursuing a chief year. These considerations impact student loan repayment because of the direct impact on the borrower’s household income.

In this politically-charged election season, it is more challenging than ever to keep track of the current parameters of the repayment system – especially for borrowers with limited free time and demanding schedules. I assist my clients with understanding these changes and determining what steps they need to take to qualify.

I know these loan programs, I know the professional landscape, and I can save you time and money on your student loans. Let’s work together to get your student loans under control and to reduce your stress and anxiety surrounding this debt.

MBA, 2009. Capital University. BA, 1998. Ohio State University.

To earn my MBA, I attended classes at night for four years while working full-time as the Director for Financial Advising for JD, Legal Nurse Consulting, and LLM students at Capital University Law School.

Experience

I am a national expert on student loan repayment for physicians with over 25 years of experience. I have traveled the country to speak, train, and consult on student loan funding and repayment for physicians. I was elected the Central Region Representative for the National Committee on Student Financial Assistance (COSFA) through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and I provided consultation on proposed federal educational loan repayment legislation to U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s office. In the Central Ohio area where I live, I have consulted with the Ohio Department of Education, the Inter-professional Student Council at Ohio State University, and the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. I regularly speak to residents in the area at Mount Carmel, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, and the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I created and taught an elective at the Ohio State University College of Medicine entitled “Financial Preparedness Education for Medical Students”. In addition to my consulting work through my LLC, I serve full-time as the Program Manager for the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center's Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office.

Loan Repayment Management Services for Physicians

Educational Loan Management Consulting for physicians

I advise physicians on student loan repayment. I provide an assessment of the client’s student loan portfolio and develop an individualized, structured proposal to reach the client’s end goal in the most cost-effective manner. I do this by evaluating each available payment plan, forgiveness option(s), and personal tax filing decisions. I research ongoing changes and updates to the federal repayment programs and servicing platforms and advise my clients on how changes to existing repayment programs and forgiveness options may impact them.

Assistance with Loan Repayment and Forgiveness Applications for Physicians

In addition to creating a customized plan, I guide my clients through the administrative processes to enact the plan.
